I’m finally embarking on my Digital Nomad journey, aiming to fulfill personal goals and experience new worlds. As a treat, I even dump my backpack content.

For the most part of my life, I have been intrigued by the idea of living in a different part of the world. The concept of immersing myself in a unique culture, a new environment, and experiencing life through different perspectives has always seemed somewhat magical to me. This sentiment is perfectly encapsulated by a saying attributed to Saint Augustine, which I first encountered in Rolf Potts’ book about Vagabonding:
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
I consider myself fortunate to have parents who nurtured in me a love for travel and exploration. It was during these adventures that I discovered how the simple pleasures of life, such as traversing the unknown paths while absorbing the sun’s love, experiencing the breathtaking vastness of the ocean while observing its vibrant underwater world, and more broadly, immersing myself in the rich diversity of our exotic world, bring me immense joy. While these experiences might sound clichéd or even border on being cheesy, they honestly are the moments that sprinkle joy on my happiness.
Being born in a country that doesn’t offer year-round sunshine, warm oceans teeming with vibrant aquatic life, or naturally mild climates, I found myself captivated by the prospect of living somewhere where these wonders are commonplace.
Following my studies in Scotland, this desire grew even stronger. In fact, it was so strong that I nearly started my career in Malta. However, after a long-awaited reunion with my family, I realized that I wanted to spend as much time as possible with my loved ones, especially my grandparents, whose precious time with me is naturally limited.
Fast forward four years, and my life has changed considerably. I stand on the verge of an incredible opportunity: a chance to achieve my long-standing dream of traveling and living in some of the world’s most beautiful, warm, and sunny locations, each boasting stunning beaches and mesmerizing marine life. Because I am aware that not seizing this opportunity now would be something I’d likely regret in the future, tomorrow, I’m finally taking the plunge and kicking off my Digital Nomad journey.
Setting goals plays a major role in my life. They provide a path to self-improvement and a means of becoming my best self. Therefore, I feel like starting this adventure without setting a few goals would be a missed opportunity. As a result, for the initial four months, I have set the following four goals:
- Learn Spanish
- Go diving in Mexico’s top reefs
- Attend a surfing school in Costa Rica
- Release Invoicy
Finally, to the like-minded individuals who enjoy (perhaps a bit too much) peeking into the content of other travelers’ bag, I present my personal selection of items for this journey. As usual, I probably spent way too much time and effort looking for items that fit my criteria of being functional, lightweight, comfortable, sustainable, and possessing a premium feel. Sometimes I had to compromise (hello USB-A), and sometimes, I made exceptions (hello GoPro), but I feel like the end result still reflects my goals and initial criteria.
This list is intended solely for inspiration. If it wasn’t abundantly clear by this point, let me clarify: these items are personalized to suit my needs. If you are about to embark on your own travel journey, don’t feel as if any of these items are required for you. We are different, our goals are different, and so are our travels. Don’t let the process become overly complicated or exhausting; instead, enjoy and have fun. Pura Vida!
